Kitchen update

So back in April we decided to put new floors in the kitchen and dining room area. With help from good friends we were convinced to redo the entire kitchen-new design, new cabinets, new counter top, basically everything but a stove. The microwave was going to stay, but it fell apart when it was dismounted from the wall...ooops. It has been a long process (working only on weekends and enlisting friends who are "paid" with beer, pizza, brats on the grill, goldfish crackers, fruit snacks and mint M&M's!), but it really is starting to look like a kitchen again and it looks amazing! A special thanks to Dawn as well for taking Ethan for a few hours on Saturdays while I'm at work and Owen's building cabinets. Ethan seems to always find the mud and make a big mess of himself while playing with his friends. Recently when he wakes in the morning the first thing he says is "see Freedom and Cific (friends name is Pacific) today?"

I am very excited to have new drawers to fill and cabinets to stock. It's kind of like living a reality TV show on HGTV. And best of all it seems that all will be complete by the time new baby comes. Ethan loves to "race cars" on the new wood laminate floors. We have been making ramps and tunnels with all the ikea boxes to see how fast Lightening McQueen can race against "engine car" or Raul, or one of the other 50 cars he has. It's really lots of fun!

We haven't decided on counter tops yet. We have a good quote for granite, but knowing this is a starter home and that we are not going to get our money back, and possibly not even break even on what we bought the house for, it really makes me mad knowing that whoever does buy our place in a few years (or more) is going to get a really updated bathroom (with granite tile) and an awesome kitchen for a huge bargain because of the economy! So, I am leaning towards saving some money and putting in laminate counters which is still a huge improvement from the butcher block which is currently there. :)

More pictures to follow...I have to find some good before picts! Ethan likes the trash can cabinet. "I sit in here and drink smoothie!" He fits perfectly!
