Mother's Day

My shirt says "mommy loves me" (both extremes here)!
My first Mother's Day was as good as it could be. My newly engaged sister came in town from St. Louis to shop for a wedding dress. My mom and Grandma came on Saturday bearing flowers for the both of us for totally different reasons. It was successful as she found and bought a beautiful dress! She is planning for a late October or early November wedding so she is glad to have that marked off her list. I treated my sis and she treated me to a manicure on Sunday, followed by a little trip to Target to get diapers. It was a fun little get away while dad stayed at home with the little guy. Upon returning home, Ethan had placed a gift on the stove- a new spoon rest and new wooden spoons! (all of which were much needed!) I made a rule that mommy's don't cook on Mother's day so we had jimmy johns for lunch and a celebratory dinner of Applebees curbside to go since Ethan doesn't do well out for dinner just yet.

I say this day was as good as it could be because I am constantly thinking about the DeJoode family who is coping with a tragic car accident which has changed thier lives forever. Carson (5 years) and Claire (5 months) met Jesus in heaven as a result of the accident. The 3 yr old is ok and will be going home tomorrow. He will be going home without his mom, who remains in a coma and has no idea of her 2 children's deaths. So, naturally the day was humbling as we think about and pray for this family. You better believe something like this effects ALL mothers (and fathers) to some degree and puts life into perspective.

  1. You expressed our feelings very well, Debbie, in your last paragraph. We are keeping the DeJoode's in our prayers, too.

By the way, I think your theme of Ethan in his chair is just great.
