Firsts

Sorry for the sideways picture!
Ethan has hit quite a few milestones this week! His FIRST TOOTH has come through his gums on the bottom left. It all started with some explosive diarrhea last Thursday followed by new onset fussiness and the looks of a tooth under the gums. On Saturday I could feel the grooves of the tooth and today it is sharp! He still has a toothless smile, but nonetheless, teething has officially started! It is bittersweet because it means he is going to be a little boy soon and no longer a baby... He has a new "teething face." Monday while I was at work I got MANY phone calls from Owen letting me know how fussy Ethan was and how he was not napping well. Tylenol has helped so far, and the sleeping was probably more related to the fact that he was off his routine because of our weekend in Milwaukee to celebrate Evelyn's FIRST birthday! He made up for lost sleep on Tuesday with a 3 hour nap followed by a 2 hour nap. We has so much fun on Saturday at EV's birthday party. There were so many little kids around the age of one it was fun to see what Ethan will be doing this winter! Ethan was interacting and initiating "play"with Evelyn for the first time. Usually Evelyn just pokes him in the eyes or forehead, BUT this time Ethan pulled her hair! He finally noticed his cousin! Yeah!
Ethan is also sitting unassisted! He does topple over after a few minutes sometimes, but many times he catches himself and stays balanced. He is enjoying lots of new age appropriate toys that we borrowed from some friends. They all light up and make noises! The swing no longer appeals to him and the exersaucer is also a thing of the past because of how it can hinder muscle development in the legs. I have noticed also that Ethan is becoming less of a lap baby. He prefers to be on the floor exploring or playing with toys. You will find him playing with his feet while lying on his back. He grabs on to his toes and leans to the side...so close to rolling but not quite!

Ethan sits on the dinner table with us in the bumbo seat while we eat dinner. He is interested in the food we are eating and holds onto a sippy cup or a baby spoon. I put a few drops of water in the cup and he was surprised when he got some water in his mouth. He is also making some new sounds! His newest noises sound like "bababa." No mama or dada yet. It is always fun to listen to see what new sounds he will make.

Ethan continues to see the chiropractor and on Saturday he needed a cervical and thorasic adjustment. Dr. Tara kept commenting on how healthy his spine is! She gave some recommendations on starting solid foods. I really enjoy what she has to say about the chiropractic approach! We will see the pediatrician on August 25th for Ethan's 6 month well baby check.
